Grow up already, and grab yourself a brain while your at it!

Senator Mike Duffy pretty much blew a gasket on Power & Politics, and called NDP MP Peter Stoffer a "faker" to his face for conducting nothing more than a "stunt", into which he dragged the Conservative Senator. His displeasure with the MSM for engaging the stunt was clearly obvious as well.

Stoffer is accusing PM Harper of hypocrisy for appointing 27 Senators that could, he says, cost taxpayers $177,000,000 before they're gone.

Doing so completely ignores any semblance of reality, political or otherwise.

1) All appointed Conservative Senators, according to all reports, have agreed to two conditions: a) they will support senate reform, and b) they will retire after 8 years.

2) Every single effort by PM Harper to reform the Senate, specifically with regard to election and terms, has been blocked outright by Liberal Senators...presumably on the orders of their leader. (...they do have a leader, do they not??? Oh, yeah...silly me.)

3) Clearly, and apparent to anyone with an IQ of at least 50, in order to reform the Senate there is no option left but to first stack the Senate with Conservatives.

Conservatives in favor of reform.

4) If PM Harper didn't appoint Senators to fill the gaps, the entire institution would have ceased to function at all.

5) There is no doubt whatsoever that, given the first opportunity...i.e., in the event of an election win, or perhaps another attempted coup d'etat...Iggy would fill those positions with more Liberal hacks and thereby insure there would be no hope of reform for more decades to come.

6) Provincial governments across the country, save for Alberta, have done basically not one damn thing to move Senate reform along.

It takes more guts than you can find rotting around a slaughter house for Liberals, who have fought tooth and nail to keep the Senate stacked with their hacks since forever, and Dippers, who could not possibly care less about any reform at all of a Senate they'd prefer gone outright, to accuse Harper of hypocrisy on this issue.

I sincerely doubt that it ever occurred to Harper, or anyone else in the government, that something so basic as finally bringing some degree of actual democracy to an important institution of a nation which prides itself for being a bastion of democratic principle, could run into such apathy, such contempt, and such intransigence.

Frankly, it's a bloody disgrace, and just downright pathetic.

I saw the segment, I thought Duff put Stouffer in his place. Mike also blasted Solomon for today's media. Loved it...

Mike Duffy continues to call it as he sees it. Why Mr. Stoffer focused on what the Conservative senators MIGHT cost as opposed to what other senators WILL cost defies logic. Looks like electioneering to me, too. Good on Duff!

TangoJuliette sez:

Can this JackAss REALLY get away withuisng Harper's signature and exercising "copyright infringements" by using the Conservative Logo?

Did he declare how much the pantheon of Librano appointees will cost the country? Not counting the brown bagging ... er ... no, no, no. Not counting the brown envelopes.

I don't think the clock on 8 year terms of PM Harper senators should be started until all the provinces agree and have senators elected and waiting. That would prevent the lieberals from stacking it with their own at the end of 8 year terms. If they are in power then.

Rob, interesting point.

On the plus side, we're not far away now from outnumbering the Libs in the Senate. Things will start moving a lot quicker then.

Mike Duffy smack down of peter Stoffer was great. At least Evan Solomon let Mike Duffy defend himself in an attempt to be fair better than TomClark.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Tom Clark better watch out. Evan is much more fair and non-partisan.

So, can the conservatives come up with a fake cheque, with liberal logo etc, for 43 million adscam funds, marked NSF.
I also wonder if action could be taken for using the signature of the PM, and conservative logo. Would love to see a lawsuit, even if it got thrown out. Could it be a hate crime, call in the HRC. Another idea that will backfire big time.

Joanne, have to agree with you. Not that I'm any kind of fan, but Evan definitely is more balanced, and lets less nonsense slide by.

I expected better from Tom Clark.

After listening for 10 days, on your program to Liberals, NDP condemn Conservative MP's for misleading , inaccurate, false and deceiving advertising with giant size carnival cardboard cheques, we have Peter Stoffer offering this gem (can you say deceiving).
Did the obvious connection go right over your head so you didn't comment, or were you guided by an NDP cue card -NO STORY HERE LET"S MOVE ON.

Peter Stoffer in keeping with his misleading, inaccurate, and deceiving statements said "Harper has appointed more senators in a calendar year " than any other Prime Minister. What he neglected to say was that Harper has been reluctant to appoint Ssnators and in fact the appointment of the 18 Senators this year was only playing catch up and is a part of a total of 20 senators that Harper has appointed in total over the last 4 years since being elected - 1996,1997,1998,1999. It would be nice to hold some of your guests accountable for their deceiving statements - don't you think you let Canadians down in this instance?

Why didn't Duffy mention that he was appointed for 8 yrs, as were all appointments by PMSH.
Stoffer's figures are way out to lunch.
